Isotope Visual Layouts v1.0 is coming

Isotope Visual Layouts my plugin for WordPress will soon be updated to version 1.  This is a big milestone for me and from my perspective, the plugin will be ‘out of beta’.

I think, I have been talking about this for some time … but it’s been a bit harder for me to finish as I started a new job and need to commute out of London every day. I have also been working on another plugin and wanted to re-use what I have learnt / built from that project.

What’s coming in Isotope Visual Layouts v1.o?

Key features of the next release are:

  • Featured Image now included
  • Sticky Notes have a max-width but not a fixed height
  • New colour styles which you can select – Red, Yellow, Violet, Green, Blue, White, Orange
  • Isotope shortcode can now be used ‘safely’ anywhere – on a blog post, page.
  • Tested and it works well with WordPress Multisite
  • Tested with WordPress Twenty Twelve theme, WooThemes (latest theme / framework) and testing on Thesis framework.
  • Tested on WordPress up to v3.5 beta 1

Filtrify – an extension of Visual Layouts

I’m also finishing work on an extension for Isotope Visual Layouts. This will introduce a dropdown filter & navigation for Isotope Visual Layouts. You can see this in action on my website I’ve decided this will be a premium / paid for extension.

What features or how would you like this to be extended?

I’d like to hear from anyone who is using my Isotope plugin .. what features are you looking for? How do you want to see it extended?

    Hi Damien,

    Congrats for your work.
I’m seriously considering updating my old personal website based in your fantastic module. For me is really important the possibility of multiple filters, therefore:
    – is it possible to use the “Combination Filters”?
    – when coupled with Filtrify (which looks very promising), the popup box can be change by a normal menu?

Thank you! and regards from E3

      Hi Elian

Thanks for your positive comments … I’ll be looking at Filtrify next week – you can see it working on my main site at and yes, I’ll look into combination filters

Hi Damien. Been following your progress with this for a while. Used it once here – And really enjoyed integrating it, so big thanks!

What I think may be a nice addition, if maybe a little tricky, would be to have the boxes expand on click ala here: I think this uses some Ajax as well, not really sure. But love the sleekness of this method.

I did find a Github resource which had something that was basically the same using CSS, I can fire the link your way if interested?

    Keep up the good work..

      Hi Marcus

If you liked my Isotope plugin you might really like my new Visual Layouts plugin using Freetile.

So now that I’ve got most of that plugin done … I’m off to rebuild the Isotope one with all the same features and more.

will you be able to have excerpts in the new version of your plugin, on archives for example

    • Damien Saunders November 4, 2012 at 10:36 am #

      Hi Michael

Happy to take on recommendations for the next version … basically are you saying you’d like to include the excerpt if you have an layout for a specific category?

Hey Damien, did you end up creating the Isotope plugin for WordPress that included Combination Filters? I looked at your demo but didn’t see it. Thanks in advance!
